Tick exposure can occur year-round, but ticks are more prevalent during the warmer months (April to September). Ticks live in grassy, brushy, or wooded areas. Whether you’re walking your dog, camping, or gardening, you may be in contact with ticks and not realize it. Treat your clothing, camping gear, and skin with Bug Soother MAX about 10 minutes before venturing into the woods. Bug Soother MAX prevents ticks for up to 2 hours, so reapply often.
Be sure to also check your clothing for ticks. Tumble dry clothing in a dryer on high heat for 10 minutes. If the clothes require washing first, hot water is recommended. Shower soon after being outdoors – in fact, showering within 2 hours of coming indoors has been shown to reduce your risk of Lyme disease. Conduct a full body check and use a mirror to view all parts of your body – especially under the arms, around the ears, inside belly button, back of knees, in and around the hair, and between the legs.
Bug Soother MAX is a natural insect repellent that features 8 tick-repelling oils. These effective (active) ingredients are cedarwood, peppermint, thyme, citronella, geranium, lemongrass and clove oil. Each oil plays a role in protecting skin from ticks – it doesn’t harm them, just repels! Not only does this powerhouse blend repel ticks for 2 hours but it also repels mosquitoes for up to 6 hours. There aren’t many insect repellents on the market that offer that kind of protection, naturally! Through our third-party testing, we found that Bug Soother MAX is most effective on blacklegged (deer) ticks – most common in the northeastern part of the United States.
Thyme, clove bud, and citronella/lemongrass were proven to be the most effective oils against ticks, but invigorating peppermint can actually make a lodged tick remove itself. Fun fact: Ticks use their sense of smell to determine when to leap onto their host. The strong floral smell of geranium disguises human’s natural smell of CO2, which is also a featured oil in our repellent!
Cedarwood is a pleasant-smelling, woodsy oil for humans, but is an oil ticks also can’t stand. In fact, some doses can kill ticks. We’ve harnessed the power of these oils to produce a repellent that’s safe for the entire family. Use Bug Soother MAX when you’re venturing into the outdoors in wooded or marshy areas where mosquitoes and ticks lurk. This repellent is safe to use as often as you need, or even paired with Bug Soother original. Keep in mind that Bug Soother original formula is effective against gnats and some mosquitoes and has not been tested against ticks. Use Bug Soother original when you’re mowing the yard, at your kids’ baseball game, or boating (ie: somewhere in a non-woody or marshy area) for protection.
